Sara Sagui-Henson

Bio

I am a Ph.D. candidate studying Health Psychology with Dr. Sara Levens and Dr. Tierney Lorenz at UNC Charlotte. I received my M.A. in Psychology at UNC Charlotte in 2015, and my B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach in 2013.

Research Interests

As a Health Psychologist, I am fascinated by the complex connections between the psychosocial, emotional, and biobehavioral processes that influence health. My program of research combines psychological theories of stress appraisals and reactions with models of emotion-focused coping to investigate how individuals can mitigate biobehavioral risks for chronic illness. Specifically, my doctoral work has focused on elucidating the bi-directional mechanisms through which stress reactivity and emotion regulation ability impact cardiometabolic health.

The goal of my research is to advance our understanding of how psychological, emotional, behavioral, and physical health interact, and to help transform our healthcare approach from a reactive one to one that emphasizes prevention and patient-centered care.
